(with ER doctors)

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Today, we learned about what happens to patients when they first go to the ER. Ms. Carrie spoke to us about how the ER can be very loud after something traumatic happens and the kinds of things they have to deal with after something huge happens.

We walked outside and walked through a Decon Tent. This tent provides as a helpful thing when a lot of people are contaminated with some type of chemical. It's pretty much like a huge shower that can be reusable. Once you get through the tent you become separated. You are separated due to your symptoms or how you are reacting to the exposure of the chemicals. You will be separated to a green, yellow, red, or black tarp and that determines when you receive help.

We had other speakers who spoke about burns, respiratory, and your eyes. We learned about the differences in acidic burns and alkaline burns.

We also learned about dead skin, a variety of burns and how many burns have been untreated and can lead to amputation. When talking about the eyes we learned about conjuctions, corneal abrasions and forign bodies. We learned how to test pH levels and what would be considered a good or bad level. When we were talking about eyes, we were told that when someone has a foreign body in their eye they will get a drill and drill the foreign body all the way down until it is gone.
