Today, we learned how to collect data at a crime scene. We also experimented to show us the ways we can see blood splatters even though someone may said they cleaned. Corporal Benefield helped us collect fingerprints. We started by putting our fingers on a white piece of paper and then taking this black powder almost like pencil shavings and rubbed it onto the card very lightly. Once we did that we were able to see our fingerprints. Next, I went to Mr. Garside's station where he taught about how Blue Star can show blood after it is supposedly cleaned up. When we walked into the room we saw no blood anywhere but as soon as the lights went off and he sprayed Blue Star, there was blood everywhere. I thought that is very cool that there is a spray you can purchase to see if there is blood and this could be beneficial when it comes to crime cases. The last station we had was with Mr. Bentley to show us how to collect DNA and how to properly seal the DNA. We had a partner and we swabbed their mouths put the swabs in the bag sealed the envelope, and filled out the important information on it. These stations were very helpful and great insights into how you can collect data in a crime scene. I would be very excited to do this again.
