This week in Biomed, we had the amazing opportunity to participate in the mass casualty drill at the University of South Alabama. This has been my third year to participate in this event. My injury was that I was a seventeen-year-old, a gunshot wound to the leg, with arterial bleeding. My main job was that I needed to be alert and panicked and I sure did that. Tuesday morning, we spent all morning getting everyone ready and prepared with moulouge. I helped make sure that everyone was getting what needed to be done as well as making sure everyone had transportation to South. Also, I did some lacerations on some kids.
When we arrived at South Alabama, we were all separated throughout the building depending on the injury you had. It was a school shooting with an explosion so some of us were put into funny positions. I was stuck in the back of the building so I was one of the last out of the building. I had to scream for over thirty minutes nonstop stop saying "HELP, my leg hurts" and "I have been shot." I kept getting told to be quiet because I was making everyone's head hurt because of how annoying I was.
The rest of the week we kept preparing for our presentations. I have added and taken away some things to my slides and have also changed my title. I also practiced in front of my parents where I was able to get a better understanding of what I needed to work on before I presented my actual presentation.
